Logline : Un autre rassemblement des Fêtes pour la famille Hébert. Cette fois, Paula, la matriarche, cache une surprise déchirante sous le sapin de Noël.

Synopsis : C'est encore Noël. Le moment préféré de l'année de Paula Hébert. Comme d'habitude, elle s'attend à ce que ses enfants d'âge moyen passent les vacances dans la maison familiale. Anna (49 ans) et son compagnon Laurent (52 ans) sont allés chercher Matthieu (55 ans) à l'aéroport avant de se diriger vers les Laurentides pour des festivités qu'ils jugent commerciales et surfaites. À mesure qu'ils approchent de la maison, d'anciennes tensions refont surface. Anna partage son inquiétude concernant la santé de leur mère, que Matthew, l'ingénieur, rejette immédiatement comme étant une dramatisation excessive de sa sœur l'artiste. Cependant, en entrant dans la maison de leurs parents, Matthew est consterné par l'apparence frêle de sa mère. Les traditionnels 12 jours de Noël prennent une tournure différente. Malgré l'abondance de décorations de Noël, l'accueil chaleureux de Paula et la richesse de la nourriture qu'elle a préparée tout en participant aux célébrations habituelles, aux chants de Noël et aux boutades, Matthew, Anna et son partenaire Laurent se rendent compte que quelque chose ne va vraiment pas. La respiration de Paula est laborieuse et elle contrôle moins.

Au début, la fratrie et Laurent parviennent à ignorer la vérité flagrante. Comme si cette éventualité inévitable était impossible dans le contexte de leur famille.

Le 26 décembre, alors qu'Anna et Laurent sont absents pour quelques heures, Paula avoue à Matthew que le cancer qu'elle a combattu il y a 22 ans est revenu et s'est propagé. Elle s'est méticuleusement préparée à mourir chez elle, et ses enfants seront chargés de mettre fin à ses jours quand elle le leur demandera. La femme qui a toujours imposé ses conditions maintient toujours le contrôle de sa maisonnée. Bouleversé par la tragique nouvelle, le trio s'associe pour soulager leur mère et l'assister dans l'événement le plus déchirant qu'ils aient eu à partager.

Logline: Another holiday gathering for the Hébert family. This time, Paula, the matriarch, is hiding a disheartening surprise under the Christmas tree.

Synopsis: It’s Christmas again. Paula Hébert’s favourite time of the year. As usual, she expects her middle-aged children to spend the holidays at the family home.
Anna (49) and her partner Laurent (52) have picked up Matthew (55) from the airport to make their way to the Laurentians for festivities that they consider commercial and overrated. 
As they approach the house, old tensions resurface. Anna shares her concern about their mom’s health, which Matthew, the engineer, immediately dismisses as being an over dramatization from his artistic sister. 

However, upon entering their parents’ home, Matthew is shocked by his mother’s frail appearance. 

The traditional 12 Days of Christmas take a different turn. Despite the abundance of Christmas decorations, Paula’s warm welcome, and the wealth of food she has prepared, part of the the usual celebrations, music, and humorous banter, Matthew, Anna and her partner Laurent realize that something is indeed wrong. Paula’s breathing is laboured and she is less controlling. 
At first, the siblings and Laurent manage to ignore the blatant truth but that unavoidable eventuality is impossible in the context of their family. 

On the 26th of December, Paula admits to Matthew that the cancer she fought 22 years ago has returned and has spread. She has meticulously prepared to die at home and her children will be in charge of ending her life when she asks them to. 
The woman who always made everything happen on her terms is still in control.
